KF2 Commando Perk Overview: Assault Rifles and Basic Tips
The Commando is the basic offensive soldier of Killing Floor 2. This light overview, written by a player as an introduction rather than a build guide, covers the role, the assault rifles by tier and a few habits worth learning.

Role
The Commando kills hordes of small zeds and helps bring down big ones, Scrakes in particular. His weapons are assault rifles, and his skills raise damage, magazine size and reload speed. He also lets the whole team see cloaked enemies. He is not strictly required in a squad, but adds extra firepower and is one of the easiest perks to play.
Arsenal by tier
- Tier 1 - AR-15 Varmint 9mm: 9mm AR-15 variant, slightly stronger than the Beretta, burst and single shots only, 20 rounds per magazine. Useful only in the first waves.
- Tier 2 - SA-80 Bullpup: British assault rifle, 30-round magazine, high fire rate and decent damage, with plenty of spare magazines. Considered one of the best Commando weapons.
- Tier 3 - AK-12: same magazine size as the Bullpup, better fire rate and damage, less recoil, but fewer spare magazines.
- Tier 3 - M16 with M203: meant for the Demolitionist but usable by a Commando; similar to the Bullpup plus a grenade launcher.
- Tier 4 - SCAR-H: high damage, strong recoil and only 20 rounds per magazine; it can take on a Scrake but empties fast.
- Stoner (LMG): the biggest magazine and a very high fire rate, with the lowest damage of the group. Great against hordes.
Tips
- Short controlled bursts: assault rifles eat ammo, especially in full auto. Use short bursts or single shots.
- Fallback: buffs your knife and 9mm pistol damage, making them useful in bad spots and saving dosh.
- See cloaked enemies: the Commando spots Stalkers (and the Patriarch) when they are invisible. Shoot them first.
- Skills: choose between more damage or more bullets, faster reloads or faster shooting, to taste.
Hell on Earth
On the hardest difficulty every player has to do their part. The Commando's job is to shoot Stalkers, add firepower when a Scrake shows up and clear lots of zeds. It is not a hero role, but spotting cloaked enemies is always welcome. One commenter adds that a Commando should handle trash and not touch big zeds on higher difficulties unless helping with an already stunned one.
