KF2 Support Guide: Shotguns, Loadouts, Skills (Early Version)
This is a translation of a Brazilian Portuguese guide, marked "outdated" by the author, about the Support perk in the early version of Killing Floor 2. Numbers and weapons have changed since, so use it for the general role.
Perk bonuses
- Welding efficiency: 3 percent per level
- Shotgun damage: 1 percent per level
- Shotgun penetration: 20 percent per level
- Ammo: 1 percent per level
- Strength: 1 point every five levels
- Ammo backpack
- Can repair destroyed doors
The Support is a short-range class that does well in tight spaces. It can be played two ways. The first is a penetrator: pick skills that improve how bullets pass through Zeds, kill whole rows with one shot and deal with Scrakes alone. The second is a real support: kill small Zeds with a high rate of fire while the team handles what the Support cannot, hand out ammo (once per wave) and repair broken doors to control Zed rotation. The biggest drawback is shotgun ammo cost: refilling the AA-12 costs close to 700 dosh, so you often rely on teammates to afford a full buy.
Priority targets
Cyst/Clot/Slasher - Crawler - Gorefast - Gorefiend - Siren - Scrake - Fleshpound. The Support is the only perk that can drop a Gorefast with a single shot, so make it a priority. Precise headshots take down a Siren in a few shots. Focus on Scrake and Fleshpound only if you chose damage over speed in your skills. Husks depend on the situation: they attack from range and rarely come close, so shotguns are less effective and you can leave them for others.
Arsenal
SG 500 Pump-Action.
SG 500 Pump-Action. The starter weapon, with a reasonable fire rate and good damage to last until the end of the match.
Double Barrel Boomstick.
Double Barrel Boomstick. Nearly the same as the starter, but penetrates more and has an alt fire that shoots both barrels at once. Its weakness is very limited ammo.
HZ12 Multi-Action.
HZ12 Multi-Action. Fires several shots in a row and reloads by magazine. A good choice even against big Zeds.
M4 Combat Shotgun.
M4 Combat Shotgun. Similar to the SG 500 but with more damage and a much shorter interval between shots.
AA-12 Auto Shotgun.
AA-12 Auto Shotgun. The Support's strongest weapon: highest damage, shortest fire interval, and an alt fire that releases a burst at a time. Its weakness is a very slow reload.
Frag grenade.
Frag Grenade. Behaves like a normal grenade but also scatters metal fragments that reach farther enemies.
Loadout
The Support's loadout changes the most while levelling, because every five levels you gain a skill point and a point of strength, so you can always improve it.
- Levels 5 to 10: M4 Combat Shotgun plus SG 500, or SG 500 plus Double Barrel Boomstick plus extra items.
- Levels 15 to 25: M4 plus HZ12, or Boomstick plus SG 500 plus extras.
Economy
Ration your dosh well. On very small or very large maps you need not change weapons, so keep the starter until the Scrake wave and then move to tier 3 or 4. Only shotguns can handle many Zeds at once. Save the first grenades and buy more only after wave 5 or 6. Armor is only worth buying after wave 5, since that is when Scrakes and Fleshpounds appear.
Skills
Damage and penetration setup.
Damage and penetration. Best for those who want to kill Scrakes alone. You can swap the first and fourth tiers: High Capacity Magazines adds 50 percent to magazine size, Tactical Reload speeds up reloading. Pick the first if you cannot control your ammo, the second if you can watch the magazine before it reaches zero. For the fourth tier the author recommends keeping Resupply Pack, which gives allies 30 percent more ammo plus 20 percent armor, though it also raises your own carried ammo and thus ammo cost; Concussion Rounds may be less useful because other perks stun better.
Support setup.
Support. Simple, little change needed. For those who focus on supporting the team: kill small Zeds and give the team room to move around the rotation.
