Six tips
- Reload vs magazine size. In smaller camp areas use the Tactical Reload skill. In large camp areas, the magazine size increase skill lets you kill more zeds, including large ones.
- Weapons are a personal choice. In the video the author sometimes prefers the Medic Assault Rifle over the SCAR; either gets the job done. He sometimes bought the M16 M203 only because he could not afford both the AK12 and the SCAR or medic rifle, so it is an alternative. Unless you use Tactical Reload, he does not suggest using the M16 grenades except where needed, such as against Fleshpounds.
- If you are new to HoE, do not be upset about losing. Common mistakes are not looking behind you after every few kills, forgetting to heal, panicking and, most harmful, body shots. Aim for the head and only the head.
- You do not have to be as fast as the author. Speed helps and makes the game feel relaxed, since the more you kill the less there is to worry about.
- Keep your ammo full. Balance reloads against kills and reload whenever you have a few quiet seconds.
- Gas Crawlers in small spaces. They are annoying, but sometimes it is better to eat the hit, wait for their animation to finish and then land the headshot. If you kill too many in one spot, the gas cloud makes it almost impossible to see behind it.
With these, the author hopes you can start earning your achievements.

FAQ
- Which Commando skill is better for solo HoE, Tactical Reload or magazine size?
- The author says Tactical Reload is better in small camping areas, while the magazine size increase helps more in large camp areas by killing more zeds and large zeds.
- What is the biggest mistake new HoE players make?
- Body shots. The author says to aim for the head and only the head, and also to look behind you every few kills, heal up and not panic.
- How should I handle gas Crawlers in tight spaces?
- Sometimes it is better to take the hit, wait for their animation to finish, then take the headshot, because killing too many in one spot hides everything behind a gas cloud.
