KF2: Which Perks to Take When Holding a Zone (2-6 Players)

This is a translation of a German guide on securing an area ("zone") on Normal and Hard difficulty. The author's idea is that some of the team holds a fixed zone while one or two players stay outside it, and each position suits different perks. The author says openly that this is their own opinion and that they will not argue about it.

How to read the lists

  • * means the perk is optimal for that position.
  • ** means it is a pro-player perk, that is, it demands strong knowledge of weapons and ZEDs and good aim.
  • The lists are given for each team size, with the numbers of players inside and outside the zone.

The perks in short

Pro perks

  • Sharpshooter is the most effective perk of all, but only if the aim is good.
  • Survivalist ("are you pro?") needs knowledge of weapons and ZEDs and good aim. With the right setup it is a good Medic replacement, and the author calls it the pro perk par excellence.

"Noob" perks: Gunslinger and Berserker, which rely on speed and map knowledge. (A commenter found calling Berserker a noob perk funny.)

Beginner perk: Firebug is the most effective perk against small ZEDs and handles bad aim well.

Team perks: Support, Demolitionist, Commando, Medic, SWAT, Sharpshooter and Firebug.

Solo perks: Gunslinger, Berserker, Survivalist, Medic and SWAT.

Every perk is optimal when you know how to handle it.

Closing words

The author's final advice: have fun, play friendly and fair, play the way you want, and thank Tripwire Interactive for the game. For a general intro see KF2 beginner basics and perk etiquette.
