KF2 Perk Teamwork Guide: What to Expect From Each Role

Killing Floor 2 is built on teamwork, so everyone should know their role. This guide, written for newcomers who would rather read than work it out alone, skips weapons and focuses on the team side. For each of the ten perks it covers what teammates expect from the perk, what the perk expects from you, and a few personal tips.

Berserker

The melee specialist, who rarely runs out of ammo and is often the last one standing.

  • Team expects: hold the front line or cover the team on the move, and block (best, parry) the attacks of big ZEDs to minimise damage.
  • He expects: cover for his blind spot, warnings about big threats, help with Bloats, EDARs and Husks, space to strafe, and healing, since he takes a lot of damage.
  • Tips: melee weapons barely need resupply (exceptions: VLAD nailgun, Pulverizer and Eviscerator), so donate money. He is not indestructible, so retreat when you must.

Commando

The assault rifle user, quick and accurate.

  • Team expects: deal with weak and medium ZEDs (Husks, Bloats, Sirens, EDARs). Crawlers and Stalkers are a priority.
  • He expects: help against big ZEDs, which he should call for, and cover while he reloads.
  • Tips: his ammo is cheap, so he is among the first to give money. He is the ZED Time master and pairs well with the Sharpshooter, who can trigger and extend it with headshots.

Support

Shotguns, lots of shells, faster door welding and penetration bonuses.

  • Team expects: close-range damage against Scrakes and Fleshpounds, clearing corridors, and welding doors first.
  • He expects: money (ammo, especially for the AA-12, is not cheap), Husks removed since shotguns are poor at range, and someone to pick off scattered ZEDs.
  • Tips: use the 9mm or the machete on weak ZEDs and save shells for tough ones. He pairs well with the Demolitionist, who can weld explosives to doors. Watch for Gorefasts and Gorefiends, which shotguns hit for extra damage.

Field Medic

  • Team expects: attention to players who take the most damage, such as the Berserker and the self-injuring Demolitionist, and killing Clots and Crawlers that others have no time for.
  • He expects: help with big ZEDs, since his weapons deal less damage than the Commando's. He has better armor, but should not be left alone for long, and often asks for money early.
  • Tips: his weapons have heavy recoil and low damage despite large ammo reserves, so he should not replace a Commando or SWAT for crowd control or hold a position alone. See also the Field Medic perk guide.

Demolitionist

  • Team expects: quickly clear groups and handle Fleshpounds. Blunt rockets can take on Scrakes, but only if nobody else can, since point-blank use is dangerous. Explosives do less to Scrakes than to Fleshpounds.
  • He expects: healing and cover, since he is weak in close combat and hurts himself, supply (his ammo is the most expensive), and helpers such as Commando, SWAT or Firebug.
  • Tips: keep ammo for Fleshpounds and use the launcher only when needed. Dynamite stuns even the biggest threats (except bosses). Weld explosives onto doors alongside the Support.

Firebug

  • Team expects: deal with weak ZEDs and those vulnerable to fire, such as Bloats and EDARs, as one of the best trash cleaners together with SWAT and Commando.
  • Danger: Gunslingers and Sharpshooters hate it when Scrakes and Fleshpounds are set on fire, because they flail around and become angry. Firebugs should step in only when others are out of position for headshots.
  • He expects: help with Fleshpounds and Scrakes, and with Gorefasts and Gorefiends, which sprint through flames without panicking.
  • Tips: he has the most varied arsenal apart from the Survivalist. With a microwave gun or husk cannon, wait for the Gunslinger or Sharpshooter to land their first hits. Flamethrower ammo is cheap, so share money.

Gunslinger

  • Team expects: rapid-fire headhunting against big ZEDs and ease with medium ones, if the weak spots are hit.
  • He expects: small ZEDs kept away, money after rounds because his ammo is expensive, and no enraged Scrakes since he can kill them with consecutive headshots.
  • Tips: do not assume he has plenty of ammo; using all the hard-hitting handguns on big threats can burn over half of it in a wave. Buy a single handgun if you cannot afford a pair.

Sharpshooter

  • Team expects: focus on the big ZEDs, not crowd control.
  • He expects: someone to hold off the trash. SWAT and Commando are good, Firebug is usually not. His ammo costs less than the Demolitionist's or Support's, and he appreciates nobody walking in front of him.

SWAT

  • Team expects: keep small ZEDs away and hold the front line, and calm a Scrake with or without a flashbang if the team struggles.
  • He expects: help with big threats, though his weapons deal more damage than the Commando's, and money, since the ammo is somewhat expensive.
  • Tips: save ammo for weak ZEDs and leave Bloats to others since their heads soak many bullets. Team up with a Sharpshooter, Support or Gunslinger.

Survivalist

  • Team expects: to fill any gap with an SMG, assault rifle, katana or a hard hitter, or to heal if needed, and to have played other perks first.
  • He expects: funding for a powerful gun. Like the Gunslinger, he needs little attention.
  • Tips: if you only use one weapon type, take the matching perk instead. The Survivalist works better later, when you can afford more weapons.

Conclusion

The author stresses that this is not a bible, only personal tips and experience that others may contest. The core idea holds: know your role, share dosh, and help each perk with what it struggles against.
