KF2 Dosh Vault Crates: The Open-and-Cancel Trick Explained
This guide describes a community "trick" for opening Dosh Vault crates in Killing Floor 2. It is based on one player's personal experience, with screenshots of his results. No official drop rates were ever published, so read it as a claim, not a verified method. For related crate-claim discussions see vault crate claim trick and dosh crate store overlay trick.
The Dosh Vault Unlocked Crate #1 screen: a player accessory, face paint, uniform variant, weapon skin, or an Exceedingly Rare Precious accessory.
The claimed method
- Prepare around five or more Dosh Vault crates.
- Go to the inventory and select a crate. A prompt with Cancel and Use appears.
- Press Cancel, then select the crate again. Repeat this quickly about five times or more.
- Finally press Use and open the crate.
The author calls it a fresh discovery that might be removed in a later update, and says he got two Precious weapon skins and another Rare skin from just three crates.
One of the author's opening results.
The result of the third crate.
A repeat result: the author reports getting two Precious items again.
What the author claims
- The trick supposedly shifts the odds so that cosmetics come at about 10 percent and weapon skins at about 40 percent, and raises the chance of a Precious ("exceedingly rare") weapon skin.
- Before using it he got no Precious items from 20 crates; with it he reports about 8 weapon skins from 20 crates, and three or more Precious from 10 crates.
- It does not guarantee anything: Precious is by definition exceedingly rare, and you may still get cosmetics and accessories.
- The idea came from a similar crate-cancel habit in another game, and the author argues that cancelling "resets" the roll.
FAQ from the guide
- How do I do it? Cancel and reopen the crate quickly about five times, then Use.
- I still get cosmetics. All item types remain possible; only the Precious weapon skin chance is said to improve slightly.
- It does not work for me. The author says to keep two or more vault crates ready, because it only re-rolls the odds.
- What is the real drop rate? Nobody knows. It could be 10 percent or 30 percent, but no source gives it.
Verdict
No confirmed mechanism is known by which cancelling would change the roll. Treat the trick as superstition: enjoy the crates, and do not spend real money in the hope that it works.

- Is the drop chance really improved?
- The author claims so, quoting roughly 10 percent cosmetics, 40 percent weapon skins and a better Precious chance, but this is a personal observation and no official drop rates are published. Treat it as unproven.

- Yes. According to the author all item types can still drop; the trick is only said to nudge the chance of Precious weapon skins.
