KF2 Weapon Lore: Crovel, AR-15 Varmint, SA80 Bullpup

Every weapon in Killing Floor 2 comes with a short in-universe description: who made it, what it was used for before the Outbreak and why Horzine Biotech decided to print it for its Mercenaries. This page collects the lore for three of them: one Berserker melee weapon and two Commando rifles.

Berserker: Crovel Survival Tool

Crovel Survival Tool The Crovel Survival Tool.

  • Method: Slashing, Bludgeoning
  • Manufacturer: GearUp

At first glance the Crovel looks like an ordinary shovel with an awkward handle, but it is sold as an all-in-one survival tool. Both sides of the blade carry rigid serrated teeth that rival a lumber saw: good for removing a big branch from a trunk, or bone and ligament from a Zed.

The shaft is made of chromoly steel, an alloy that protects the user from blades, spikes, chains and other dismembering equipment. The other end has an unusual handle that sacrifices ergonomics for utility, since it works as a surprisingly effective hammerhead. The tool therefore slashes well but bashes even better.

The original manufacturer built it only in limited numbers. Horzine Biotech scanned the design and distributed printed copies to Berserkers, who can always use a shovel to dig graves for the bodies they leave behind.

Commando: AR-15 Varmint Rifle

AR-15 Varmint Rifle The AR-15 Varmint Rifle.

  • Capacity: 20 rounds, 9x19mm
  • Manufacturer: Colt's Manufacturing Company, LLC

Also known as the Colt 9mm SMG, this rifle was a favorite of plinking hobbyists and crop farmers thanks to its versatility and ergonomic design. It has a lightweight receiver and picatinny rails for aftermarket parts, and a well-kept example can hit a coyote between the eyes at sixty meters. The price of that accuracy is the weak stopping power of the cartridge, and many civilians who fought the Zeds with guns like this had mixed results.

The scanned rifle presumably belonged to such a civilian, and the data shows it was scanned in the first week of the Outbreak. It has polymer rail covers and an angled grip for better recoil control, which makes it a reliable, controllable weapon that goes through a Gorefast as easily as through a varmint.

Because it is simple to build and cheap to print, it is the standard-issue Commando weapon. The lore's advice is not to point it at anything angrier than a Husk.

Commando: SA80 L85A2 Bullpup

SA80 L85A2 Bullpup The SA80 L85A2 Bullpup.

  • Capacity: 30 rounds, 5.56x45mm
  • Manufacturer: Royal Ordnance

The SA80 has been a staple of the British military for decades, and in the Killing Floor 2 setting it has become a staple of human resistance across the British Empire. 5.56x45mm ammunition was among the most requested supplies in the world during the Outbreak, but the army still could not hold against the combined Zed forces and was overwhelmed.

This rifle has an EOTech holographic sight instead of the standard-issue SUSAT telescopic sight, most likely swapped by a resourceful soldier for close-quarters fighting. It came from an army installation and was in fairly good condition.

It was scanned without a magazine, because armouries were raided for ammunition rather than rifles. Since the rifle is STANAG-compatible, magazines were easy for Horzine to produce, and the blueprint was updated with an aftermarket polymer Magpul EMAG magazine for aspiring Commandos.
