KF2: Upload a Map to the Workshop with WorkshopUserTool
A short walkthrough of publishing a cooked map to the Steam Workshop using the command line tool WorkshopUserTool.exe. The example map is called IceArena. For general Workshop practice, see the Workshop upload guide and mod/SDK basics.
Preparing your files
- Put a preview image somewhere accessible, for example
C:\Users\<you>\Pictures\preview.png. - Create a manifest text file in your KF2 documents folder, for example
C:\Users\<you>\Documents\my games\KillingFloor2\icearena.txt, with this content (one line):
$Description "A simple circle snowy arena map which will test your skills." $Title "KF-IceArena" $PreviewFile "C:\Users\<you>\Pictures\preview.png" $Tags "Maps" $MicroTxItem "false" $PackageDirectory "C:\Users\<you>\Documents\my games\KillingFloor2\IceArena"
- Create the package folder named in
$PackageDirectory, here...\KillingFloor2\IceArena. - Copy your cooked map into that folder, here
KF-IceArena.kfm.
Uploading
Run cmd.exe, go to the folder with the manifest and execute:
WorkshopUserTool.exe icearena.txt
The tool uploads the package and creates the Workshop item described in the manifest.
