L2 Walker for Dummies: Overview and the 10 Commandments of a Botter
A guide to the bot program (2005)
L2 Walker was a popular bot program for Lineage 2 in the mid-2000s: it moved the character on its own, attacked monsters, healed, buffed, picked up drops, worked in a party and even ran a private store. The "L2 Walker for Dummies" series explained, one by one, the purpose of every parameter in its settings window, with notes and recommendations. Using bots broke the rules of the official servers and led to account bans.
This is historical material from 2005. Most of the guide was written by Torgaroth and edited by Zarus; part of it was borrowed from the English guide "L2Walker 10.3.2 for Dummies" (by Braawr, GameHaqs.com).
How the guide is organized
The description follows the structure of the L2 Walker settings window and consists of four chapters. Section and parameter names are kept in English, as in the program.
| Chapter | Sections | Article |
|---|---|---|
| BASIC | Basic Options, Heal Options, Buffs, Combat Heal | Basic settings |
| PARTY | Party Setting, Party Buffs, Party Heal, Control Setting | Party settings |
| COMBAT | Pathing, Far Attacks, Short Attacks, Mons Setting, Items Setting, Pets Setting | Combat settings |
| OTHER | GM Strategy, Other Player, Names Setting, AI Answer, Vending, Sound Alerts | Other settings |
Some sections (Far Attacks, Short Attacks, Mons Setting, Items Setting, Pets Setting, GM Strategy, Other Player, Names Setting) were never finished by the authors - only screenshots of their windows survive. A separate section with ready-made settings and scripts was also planned: readers were asked to send in their ini and sec files. At the time, news about fresh versions of the program could be found on GameHaqs.com and Cheaters.ru.
The 10 commandments of a botter
A tongue-in-cheek code that opened the guide. Each "commandment" came with a comment.
- Do not boast and do not be proud. Bear your secret burden in silence. No point telling the first person you meet that you are a botter. What if they are a GM?
- Fear not the GM's harsh words and do not flee from his gaze. You are innocent. If a GM sent you a private message and you logged out right away... what does that make you?
- Do not abandon your bot, lest it stray from the true path. Luck favors the brave and the foolish, but a bot needs constant watching: the plan matters more.
- Heed your bot. Sometimes even the wise learn from fools. Without sound alerts you are half dead and half banned.
- Keep away from crowded places. Become a hermit. Audacity is a second fortune, but everything in moderation: GMs are quick to punish.
- Keep your dwelling places secret. The enemy never sleeps. There are plenty of people around who love free frags and drops - other people's property is no loss to them.
- Never stay long in one place. Travel. GMs also like to wander through remote and deserted places, and there you are with your bot.
- Covet not another's drops and monsters. Let the bot do the work. Champagne is drunk not by the one who takes risks, but by the one who takes risks and wins. Weigh your chances.
- A botter is a comrade, friend and brother to another botter. But live apart. Fewer people - more drops. Genius is simple.
- Lend a helping hand to a botter in need, and he will do the same for you. We are of one blood, you and I!
