KF2: Move the Cache Folder With a Symlink and Useful INI Tweaks
This page paraphrases a Russian community guide with two parts: a way to free space on the system drive by moving the game's cache, and a list of INI settings the author uses. Related pages: client optimization via INI and cache and KF2 graphics INI and key bindings.

Moving the Cache folder to another drive
The author prefers to move only the Cache folder rather than the whole Documents folder to another partition. The method uses only built-in Windows tools, but directory symlinks must be handled carefully because a wrong link can break system services.
- Check the properties of
Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2and note the size. - Move the contents of
Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2\KFGame\Cacheto a folder on a drive with more free space, for exampleD:\Cache. - Delete the now empty
Cachefolder. - Open
cmd.exeas administrator. - Run:
mklink /d "C:\Users\<user>\Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2\KFGame\Cache" "D:\Cache"replacing the drive letter, user name and target with your own. Keep the quotation marks. - On success the command prints that a symbolic link was created, pointing Cache to the new folder.
- Check the size of the KillingFloor2 folder again and compare with the number you noted, and verify the Cache folder contents.
- From now on, files added to the cache are stored on the other drive.
Small tuning list
All files live in %UserProfile%\Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2\KFGame\Config\.
Input (KFInput.ini)
[Engine.PlayerInput]
LookRightScale=0
LookUpScale=-0
bEnableMouseSmoothing=false
[KFGame.KFPlayerInput]
bViewAccelerationEnabled=false
The game uses different aim sensitivity vertically and horizontally; the scale lines are placeholders for adjusting it. Smoothing and acceleration are turned off. Programmable-mouse users are pointed to a separate Workshop guide.
Graphics (KFEngine.ini and KFGame.ini)
[Engine.Engine]
bSmoothFrameRate=True
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=62
[Engine.LocalPlayer]
AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV
bSmoothFrameRate and MaxSmoothedFrameRate set the FPS cap (the same pair is under [KFGame.KFGameEngine] in KFGame.ini). The aspect ratio setting gives a Quake-style FOV that keeps the vertical field of view. The author also links an older and a newer community graphics guide.
Custom content (KFEngine.ini)
[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
AllowDownloads=False
This blocks downloading custom content from servers, for players who want to use official maps only.
HUD (KFUI.ini)
[KFGame.KFGFxMoviePlayer_HUD]
HUDScale=0.85
Crash fix (KFEngine.ini)
[Core.System]
MaxObjectsNotConsideredByGC=33476
The author took this value from a ticket on the official forum.
