Binds & Console

KF2 Binds: Chat Callouts, Throw More Dosh, Reset Config

Most older bind guides tell you to hand-edit the ini file, which is awkward and not needed for simple binds. This page paraphrases a community guide that uses the in-game developer console instead. For related approaches see the setbind guide and the custom text binds and dosh guide.

Quick callout binds

Open the console (usually tilde or apostrophe) and enter:

setbind seven say "Scrake! Help!"
setbind eight say "Fleshpound! Help"
setbind nine GBA_VoiceCommReqHelp
setbind zero GBA_VoiceCommEmote

The first two warn the team about a Scrake or Fleshpound; the last two request help and play your emote, which is faster than opening the interaction wheel. If you already use 7, 8, 9 and 0, swap in other keys.

Your own chat binds

Type setbind <key> say "your text". Replace the key name and the quoted message. Note the following:

  • If the key is already bound (for example R for reload), the oldest bind is removed.
  • If you remap reload to another key in the game settings, both binds stay and both run when you press R.
  • A useful case is a chat bind such as "hold still, let me heal you" on the key that equips the med-syringe. In the console the key 4 must be typed as four.

Throwing more than 50 dosh

A key needs more than one command for this. Open Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2\KFGame\Config\KFInput.ini in a text editor (Notepad++ is recommended because plain Notepad sometimes garbles it), scroll to the bottom and add a new line. Each GBA_TossMoney throws 50 dosh, and the vertical bar separates commands:

Bindings=(Name="N",Command="GBA_TossMoney | GBA_TossMoney | GBA_TossMoney",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

Everything must be on a single line. The same pattern lets you combine anything:

Bindings=(Name="N",Command="GBA_TossMoney | GBA_TossMoney | GBA_TossMoney | GBA_TossMoney | GBA_VoiceCommEmote",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

A multi-command bind in KFInput.ini

The line as it should look in the file.

Now pressing N throws 200 dosh and plays the emote. Save the file.

Suicide bind and resetting binds

Typing suicide in the console kills your character, and setbind k suicide puts it on a key. You can also chain it with voice commands in KFInput.ini, but the author's advice is not to do it.

If you break your binds, delete KFInput.ini from the Config folder. KF2 creates a fresh default file next launch. The file also lists every bind command, so you can search it for actions you want, such as GBA_VoteYes for voting yes on a kick.

FAQ

How do I bind a key to a chat callout without editing files?
Open the console and type setbind <key> say "text", for example setbind seven say "Scrake! Help!".
How do I throw more than 50 dosh at once?
Edit KFInput.ini and chain several GBA_TossMoney commands with vertical bars; each one throws 50 dosh.
How do I undo bad binds?
Delete KFInput.ini from Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2\KFGame\Config; the game generates a fresh one on the next launch.
